I Will Break Every Paywall You Send Me: A Standing Offer
If you find a left-wing media article locked behind a paywall, tag me on X and I will reply with the full body text. No questions asked. No strings attached.
Here’s the deal. I’m done watching left-wing media outlets wrap themselves in the language of transparency while locking their reporting behind subscription walls. The Guardian. The New York Times. The Washington Post. The Atlantic. The outlets that demand everyone else be open while charging 200-400 pounds a year for access to their own work.
So I’m doing something about it.
How It Works
1. Find a paywalled article from a left-wing outlet.
2. Post the link on X and tag me.
3. I reply to your post with the full body text.
That’s it. No DMs. No sign-ups. No tracking. Just the article, in public, for anyone to read.
Why Only Left-Wing Outlets?
Because they’re the ones who built their brand on transparency and accountability. They told us sunlight was the best disinfectant. They told us information was a public good. Then they put a price tag on it.
Right-wing outlets don’t pretend otherwise. They’re honest about their model. I disagree with most of what they publish, but I respect the honesty.
Why I’m Doing This
Paywalls are a class filter. They ensure the people who can afford the news are the people the news is written for. Students, low-income workers, retirees, people without credit cards, they get locked out. The very people most affected by the policies being reported on are the ones least able to read about them.
That’s not journalism as a public service. That’s journalism as a luxury good. And a luxury good can’t claim to be a democratic necessity.
What This Isn’t
This isn’t an attack on journalists. The reporters doing the work are often as uncomfortable with the paywall as you are. This isn’t a business. I’m not selling anything, not building a database, not running a bot. This is one person, replying to posts, one article at a time.
And yes, my SubStack is free. Every article I publish is available to anyone. I don’t have a paywall. I’m not asking anyone to do what I won’t do myself.
So here it is. Find a paywalled article. Tag me. I’ll post the text.
Let’s begin.
